Born March 24, 1955 in Ephrata Pennsylvania, in the heart of Amish country. A painter since 1970, I try to create paintings that are an interpretation of what I see around me, rather than what is literal. I take what I see in nature and combine it with a memory of something I have experienced before, such as a certain type of light or color combinations. My goal is to do paintings with a strong sence of mood and atmosphere, full of light and drama. This is particularly true of my sky paintings where I am after a feeling that something is going on; an approaching storm or the brightness of a sunet.

My technique is similar to the impressionists in that I try to use pure color applied wet over dry paint, often achieving a dry brush effect. I paint because I have a need to communicate to others how I feel about what I see. I find it difficult to express myself verbally, painting is my way of saying something about the world around me.

My art training began in high school, and after graduation at York Academy of Art, where I studied for two years from 1973 to 1975. After leaving school I held various non-art related jobs, but I continued to study painting on my own. This also includes a period when I focused on furniture making. Designing and building custom furniture.

For fifteen years I exhibited successfully at the Yellow Springs Art Show, Chester County, Pa., also the Berks Art Association Shows and Lancaster County Art Association Shows, and the Lititz Art Show, earning numerous awards. My artwork has been widely purchased by collectors though out the United States. I continue to work to grow in my painting and career.
