Originally
from the Bronx, New York, and raised in Park Ridge, New Jersey, William G.
Brown, at a young age, was provided with inspiration for art by watching his
father draw and paint. Despite this young learning, he didn't begin to
seriously study art until his late twenties. Brown began to study oil
painting at the Ridgewood Art Institute (RAI). While there, he learned the
importance of painting directly from life form his instructor John Phillip
Osborne.
Much of William G. Brown's work consists of Plein Air painting, with many
of his pieces started on location. His subtle use of tone and values has
been received with laudable commendations form his fellow painters and
collectors. Brown's continuous independent study of the landscape has taken
him throughout North America and Europe.
Brown is a life member of the RAI, is also on the Board of Directors, and
he has been teaching oil painting classes at the RAI for the past five
years.
