Marlene Baron Summers has been a contemporary figurative oil painter for over fifty years. Composition, perspective, light, color and surface of the painting are all important to her work. Symbolism is expressed in forms and choice of color. Line perspective and composition give the painting rhythm, and chiaroscuro creates the mood. She uses accumulated visual memory with no model or preliminary drawings. She only paints in natural light.

Her paintings are in the collections of The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum, The Woodmere Museum, and many public and private collections. She is the winner of many awards and fellowships. Her work has been published in several periodicals and journals.
