Contemporary folk artist JD Logan lives in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. He began painting in 1998 after a serious injury to his left hand forced him to set aside his lifelong passion: playing guitar. Teaching himself the basics, he took his first paintings to a local gallery. Hoping for advice, he was instead offered the opportunity to have a solo exhibition of his work later that year. The show was a success and he hasn’t looked back since. JD is currently represented by Robert Paul Galleries in Stowe, VT and J&W Gallery in New Hope PA. In 2002 he was featured in Country Home Magazine, in which editors wrote “We fell in love with JD Logan’s New England landscapes the moment we saw them!” He was in Early American Life’s “Directory of American Craftsmen” and his work can also be seen on the set of TV’s “The Gilmore Girls”.

His work is simple, yet complex, peaceful and surreal. Intentionally leaving people and animals out of his work, he allows the viewer to place themselves into the painting and have a “moment of solitude” .

“I use the surroundings of my Berkshire home for inspiration, as well as the many scenic locations I get to visit while traveling to art shows throughout New England. More recently I have also started to use the beauty of Scotland and Ireland for inspiration in my work. My artistic goal is to create scenes that the viewer finds new, yet familiar.....intriguing, but also somehow comforting”.

JD works full time on his art from his home with his wife of 19 years, Kim, his daughter Emilee and his 3 feline studio assistants: Patches, Tootsie & Gary.
