Chris Nissen

Born November 5, 1978, within this young artist's vivid montage of childhood memories, none seem as rich in clarity as his fascination for painting; pursuing an art career was evident to him at an early age.

This fascination turned into reality for Joshua when his work "American Idol" was chosen as a finalist among 13,000 entries in Artist's Magazine 2003 Art Competition. In fact he is currently featured in Artistes Magazine's March issue. In the article "A Second Look" writer Tom Zeit expresses these words about Joshua's work. "Look at them carefully and you're likely to. . .pick up on the sense of a slightly altered reality that might just reveal something about the world that you wouldn't have noticed otherwise"

In order to nurture  Mr.Suda's creative needs, he enrolled into Luzerne County Community College's Painting and Illustration program. While at LCCC, Josh would meet Anthony Waichulis, a renown Trompe L'oeil artist, who had founded his own atelier dedicated to a style of painting.  After gaining an apprenticeship to The Waichulis Studio,  Anthony Waichulis work greatly infuenced Joshua's own work.

Since Suda's time at The Waiculis Studio, he has also been awarded honors in Graphics at the York Art League's fall exhibit, the Lapuka Award given at the Hazleton Art League's spring show, the Posatko Award for Excellence in Realism, and was published in the VSA Arts calendar for 2003.

After his completion of formal study, Josh continues to research the craft independently and is currently an assistant instructor at The Waichulis Studio. Realizing the aspirations of his youth add an immeasurable resolve to the endeavors for his future.

I strive to invite my audience to seek out the concepts behind my work. Within my paintings I aim to achieve a believable illusion of form by using a polished rendering technique while attempting to maintain subtle surrealist undertones. The observer is then invited to take an active role in uncovering hidden concepts through untraditional composition and unexpected juxtaposition. Utilizing this approach, I believe people can interact on a more personal level with the work and develop a deeper connection into my artistic intent.
