Gail Bessette

Gail Bessette's paintings are more about the conjuring of mood than actual location.  She says her landscapes are never about an isolated place or specific time of a day, but rather about a particular feeling, a sense that is initiated by a scene ( one that is remembered instead of closely observed).
Gail is a Copley Master and a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of the West Coast, National Pastel Society, and National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. She has been the recipient of over 70 awards for her still life and landscape pastels and oils.

"Through the simple patterns nature enthrals us with majestic beauty.  Although we sense the grandeur, we neglect to perceive the basic forms and shapes that constitute a setting.  In my painting, I attempt to emphasize patterns within the context of color and the overall landscape. Unlike our daily observations, the subtle effects of light, color and atmosphere are the stars that create the mood; the location serves as the cast."
