RCA Blue Brick
24” x 28” Oil on canvas

I was on a gallery field trip in Denver with my friend, painter Claire Evans, and we happened to drive past this corner. We were both taken with this image, and stopped the car, and got our cameras out. We both took many photos, with the idea that we both would do a painting of the building. I did, but Claire didn't. The building housed an electronic parts business that had been around for decades. It has sinced closed.

I am continually challenged by the notions of free expression and a distinct hand to create work that has more to do with the viewer’s perception than my intention.

Red Garments
16” x 20” Oil on canvas

I wanted to paint a night lit urban landscape, so I took my digital camera and went for a walk one evening in downtown Longmont Co, near my studio. This wonderful vision presented itself to me.

It was a latino department store window display, lit by Christmas lights. The harmony of the red dresses and lingerie was irresistable.

Crocs
16” x 20” Oil on canvas

I was in my studio in downtown Longmont CO, and I was having a hard time coming up with an idea for a new painting. As I often do in such situations, I grabbed my digital camera and decided to go for a walk to see if I could discover any intriguing images.

I didn't have to go far. Right around the corner from my studio is Brown's Shoe Store, and this vision presented itself to me. I took some pictures that afternoon, and came back in the evening and took some more. I created the painting from the evening images.

Auto
12” x 18” Oil on canvas

I had been doing a series of urban landscapes of downtown Longmont CO, and was searching for my next painting. I had done a painting of a radiator repair shop that had a sculpture of a man-like creature formed from radiator parts on it's roof.

Talking about my search for my next painting with my son, he said, “What about the automan?” I asked him what he meant. He said there was a man made from auto parts in front of an auto repair shop near our library. I asked him to take me there, grabbed my camera, and off we went. The result is this painting.
